Guard girls against sex pests

Residents of Kaplelartet in Soin-Sigowet constituency have been urged to ensure that they protect their children against sexual abuse.
Speaking at Chepkemel Primary School during a public baraza, Kericho principal magistrate Joseph Ndururi said sexual violence against minors needs legal action in order to protect the rights of the girl child.
Ndururi called upon parents of the children affected by sexual violence to avoid out-of-court negotiations as it will constitute to violation of the victims’ rights. He said legal action should be followed as it is the only way to discourage the perpetrators.
The Kericho principal magistrate said parents of the affected children should desist from settling defilement issues secretly or the traditional way, where parties agree to end the matter at home. Chiefs and their assistants were also warned against allowing the settling of the sexual abuse cases to be done traditionally where money is paid out to the affected parents so that they cannot proceed for the legal action.
