NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 31 – Two Senators and six members of the National Assembly are among public officers named in the confidential report by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Senator James Orengo is accused of illegally allocating and participating in irregular disposal of public land during his tenure as the lands minister in 2008, according to the EACC dossier presented by President Uhuru Kenyatta to Parliament.
He is accused of working together with former Commissioner of Lands Zablon Mabeya and Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa in the disposition of land on Ring Road Westlands.
It’s further alleged that the both Orengo and Mabeya received a bribe of Sh5 million while the land was sold for Sh320 million.
The Senator is also accused of illegally allocating himself a land parcel Number LR861.
“The minister vide a letter dated 19th March, 2008 wrote to the Commissioner of Lands that the said parcel was transferred to him in 1975. The lease for the said property had expired and the minister requested the Commissioner of Lands to be allocated the property,” reads the EACC Report.
Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has been accused of misappropriating Sh57 million from the CDF meant for rural access roads in 2012.
The EACC reports: “Inquiry into allegations of corruption at the Kangundo CDF for water and road projects in the year 2012. Sh57 million for rural access roads was embezzled while the Kyaume/Ngonda Village water supply is uncompleted.”
Mount Elgon MP John Serut has been accused of fraudulently acquiring public money belonging to Chepkurkur SA primary school. The Parliamentary Accounts Committee has been accused of receiving Sh1.5m to expunge defence PS Mutea Iringo’s name from a report.
Nominated MP Sonia Birdi and Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has been accused of breaching Chapter Six of the Constitution and intimidating public officers. Lamu West MP Julius Ndegwa has been accused of unilaterally awarding seven tenders to his cronies.
Ganze MP Peter Shehe has been accused of misappropriating the Constituency Development Fund and flouting the Public Procurement Act.
