A
parliamentary committee has rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nominee to the
Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
The
Justice and Legal Affairs Committee said the process leading to the nomination
of Dr Samuel Njuguna Kabue did not comply with the law.
“A
new selection panel should be constituted to receive applications, interview
applicants and shortlist them for nomination,” said a committee in a report tabled
on Thursday.
The
committee was chaired by Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga and said that while Dr
Kabue was qualified and experienced, he was not shortlisted by the selection
panel.
Dr
Kabue has three Masters degrees and several certificates. He works at the World
Council of Churches.
Dr
Kabue told the committee he is under investigation by the Ethics and
Anti-Corruption Commission for failing to act on instructions from board of the
National Council of Persons with Disabilities, his previous employer.
