NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 17 – Integrity
concerns have returned to haunt Ferdinand Waititu following his weekend
nomination as the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) candidate for the Kabete
by-election.
Waititu is facing another case in
court this time from two voters, who argue that he does not satisfy Chapter Six
on Leadership and Integrity.
Godfrey Mwaki and Joseph Njuguna
want the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission barred from issuing
Waititu with a certificate to vie in the may 4 by-election, pending the
determination of the case.
“The electorate in Kabete stands to
suffer poor representation in the National Assembly for lack of moral integrity
characterized by violent conduct as well as a tainted image of the nominee in
the wider population of Kenya,” they state.
Waititu won the JAP nomination after
garnering 14,696 votes against his closet rival, former State house official
Samuel Mburu, who got 2,334 votes.
The petitioners say Waititu has been
captured in the media engaging in stone throwing, incitement to violence,
destruction of state and private property.
They have further argue that the
High Court has previously declared Waititu unfit to hold public office
following his violent and inciteful conduct.
