There was drama at the funeral of Milkah Mulu Mutisya the wife of the late Ukambani political supremo Mulu Mutisya when area MCA Leonard Katela was forced to leave the function by irate mourners.
The mourners were angered by revelations that the embattled Katela had received a donation from former president Daniel Moi of Sh200,000 pretending to be one of the late Mulu’s sons. It is alleged Katela on getting news of the wife’s demise engaged embarked on looking for the former president whom he later met at his Karbarnet Gardens home in Kibera where the former president parted with the cash believing it would cater for funeral expenses.
Unaware the MCA had taken cash, family members looked for Moi who to their shock told them that he had sent their brother. Efforts by the family members to reach Katela proved futile as his phone was switched off only for him to surface during the burial date. Family members at the burial castigated Katela for masquerading as a family member with the aim of reaping financial favours from politicians who were close to the late Ukambani political kingpin.
On realising that the ground was hostile, Katela walked out silently to escape from the mourners who were baying for his blood. Leaders attending the function accused the former Kenya Times reporter of belittling the post of an MCA and urged voters to reject him as MCA come 2017.
The funeral was also attended by Cord leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka. On his part Kalonzo attacked area MP Vincent Musyoka who was absent for maligning his name and urged him to respect his age even as he tries to market Jubilee in the region. Former Mwala MP Daniel Muoki was cheered when he took on the MP accusing him of abandoning voters and not fulfilling his election promises only to be seen chanting Governor Alfred Mutua slogans in rallies instead of working to fulfil his manifesto and working towards improving the livelihoods of the electorates.
The former MP who is now reactivating his campaign team ahead of 2017 urged Mwala residents to back Kalonzo and ignore any leader abusing the Wiper leader saying such leaders are on payroll of Jubilee with the aim of dividing the Kamba vote.
