ODM without fixed abode in Siaya

A row is simmering between ODM officials in Siaya county over the lack of party offices in the county to transact the party’s affairs. The row pits the county ODM chairman Oloo Okanda and  his Gem subcounty chairman Douglas Otiato over claims that the county where party leader Raila Odinga comes from has no official office to transact party matters.
Otiato regretted that party officials have to face an uphill task while seeking to table their recommendations originating from the subcounty level due to lack of an office. “We are experiencing challenges when we try to channel recommendations from the subcounty to national level due to unavailability of offices,” added Otiato.Okanda however played down the claims saying party operations are ongoing without a hitch arguing that Otiato’s claims were personal vendetta fueled by a senior politician from Gem constituency who wants to portray his leadership in a bad taste.
Okanda who claimed that Otiato has no powers to speak on behalf of the party, asked his colleague to concentrate on issues arising from his area of jurisdiction and leave county matters to him. Otiato on his part urged elected leaders from the region to come together and join hands towards constructing a county office.
The subcounty chairman observed that Siaya county is an ODM stronghold zone the party managed to capture almost all the seats within the county arguing that lack of office was an affront to the members.
