Residents unhappy governor’s name not in shame list

Residents of Nandi county have written to Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commision demanding investigations on Governor Cleopas Langat over alleged graft and abuse of office. The governor, they say, should have been in the list of shame presented in parliament by Uhuru Kenyatta. The residents claim that the governor had his rural home refurbished by a contractor three months ago at Sh1 billion.
The same contractor is alleged to have built flats in Eldoret for the governor after being awarded inflated multi-billion tenders that were not approved by the county government development committee. The residents are also concerned that the governor has failed to deliver on election pledges in which he promised to provide coolers to dairy farmers. It took the intervention of the government to have milk coolers procured to help farmers. So far six milk coolers have been procured by the ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing.
Incidentally, it was suspended Agriculture minister Felix Koskei who had the coolers procured after the Nandi council of elders camped at his rural home for one week. Langat is said to be running scared that government agriculture projects will build Koskei’s stature giving him a headstart should he vie for governor in 2017.
It is alleged the governor used his wealth to influence the case against Koskei at EACC. It is claimed he funded the main complainant against Koskei, one Benjamin Kuto  who was incidentally sacked by the minister over unethical practices. It was the same Kuto  and one Justus Kigen with the blessings of Langat who conspired to bring Koskei down.
The sour relations  between Langat and the minister date back to the Okoa Kenya referendum  calls. It is said that Koskei, under instructions of the Presidency neutralised Langat who had then teamed up with Governor Isaac Rutto. Of immediate concern to EACC will be the procurement of ambulances that was never advertised, the award of a tender to refurbish Kipchoge Keino Stadium, nepotism in recruitment and the award of a beutification project for Kapsabet that was allegedly given to his adviser one Limo.
Limo is said to have worked with Langat at at Eldoret Polytechnic where massive fraud was allegedly reported. The scandal is said to have cost the county close to Sh20 million. The governor is said to have masterminded the misappropriation of tea funds belonging to estates owned by the county government such as Kiborgok Tea Estate.
However, all complaints to EACC have never been acted upon as they are allegedly intercepted by the wife of the Nandi county secretary, one  Mrs Omide.
The Tallai Council of Elders will also reportedly convene a meeting to curse Langat for wrongs against the community. The last time the council met was to curse the people who engineered the indictment of Henry Kosgey .
