Ex-Raila aide caught in fake degree scam cyber war

Former campaign manager of Raila Odinga presidential secretariat Eliud Owalo has been caught in an alleged fake degree scam. According to sources, Owalo’s academic credentials are being doubted.
Owalo, a management consultant and ODM activist is alleged to have faked his undergraduate degree having failed to graduate from Kenyatta University for unknown reasons. Sources say he at one time tried to use it to secure a chance an MBA class in the University of Nairobi.
There have been rumours that he did not graduate due to poor academic performance while others say he was expelled on disciplinary grounds. Owalo was a well-known beneficiary of the plunder that was YK’92.
But Owalo in a quick rejoinder has denied allegations that his Kenyatta University undergraduate degree is fake.
He termed the allegation as “propaganda perpetrated by corruption networks that are intent on hitting back and perhaps with what I view as a futile attempt to silence Eliud Owalo, I have deemed it imperative to bring to the public domain my Kenyatta University undergraduate degree certificate for the benefit of the larger public”.
Owalo has since posted a copy of his Kenyatta University certificate showing he graduated with Bachelors of Arts (Second Class Honours Upper Division). The certificate is signed on October 18 1996 and signed by Prof George Eshiwani as vice-chancellor.
Owalo is said to have lost favour with Raila and has been trying in vain to mend fences with top ODM and Cord leadership. In his resignation letter, Owalo cited differences with Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo. He claimed he was receiving persistent and unwarranted attacks from Midiwo accusing him of failing to coordinate the presidential campaigns effectively.
Owalo’s style of leadership had not gone down well within some politicians in Cord and who have blamed him for failing to manage party agents during the last year’s general election.
It was Owalo’s resignation letter that sources say did not go down well with Raila. Owalo wrote “Whereas I have over the past two years had to endure a lot of similar backstabbing innuendos and political intrigues from political busy bodies who are in ruthless and in aggressive pursuit of their own political aggrandisement irrespective of your own political future. I cannot reconcile my conscience with the latest attacks from Jakoyo who is in my considered opinion and belief has no technical capacity to advise me on anything”.
Sources now say that he has been sending emissaries to Raila begging to be allowed back to the Cord’s mainstream. He is said to be eyeing a seat in Nairobi county in 2017 elections.
