Wild bribery claims in Mutua impeachment saga

There were murmurs of disbelief at a meeting in Yatta when two Machakos reps claimed Cord luminaries Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka attempted to bribe Machakos MCAs to impeach Alfred Mutua. Matuu MCA Kiviu Manyolo aka Wa Mutole and Kithimani MCA Nduva aka BR told a meeting at Katangi attended by Mutua that they were called by Cord leaders in Karen and given money to impeach Mutua.
The Matuu MCA claimed Sh200m has been set aside to dethrone Mutua by June. Many in the meeting however were heard whispering that the two reps actually were bribed by Mutua to make the claims to give an impression that Mutua is being fought by Raila and Kalonzo to divert attention from his government’s massive corruption, mismanagement of county public funds, overemployment and failure to pay contractors.
Mutua had just come from Mombasa with MCAs in his camp whose number is shrinking after he ran out of cash to maintain them. It is said that it was in Mombasa where the Katangi meeting was planned and the reps coached on what to say for a fee. The allegation against Cord luminaries, residents claim, is aimed at eliciting sympathy for Mutua after residents discovered that his projects add no value to their lives except to fatten his accounts and those of his aides through kickbacks and inflated prices. A governor, Machakos people say they thought, is there to provide water, roads, educational and health facilities
Incidentally, Wa Mutole and Nduva are in trouble. Kithimani residents recently demonstrated against Nduva for allegedly awarding his children county bursaries. Wa Mutole has in the past been chased from funerals in his ward.
