Nakuru County recently witnessed a Mercedes Benz coffin burial for a Nakuru former army officer.
The late officer, an ex- colonel in the disciplined forces, owner of a bar near the gate to the Nakuru town’s KITI College was according to his official will, burnt last week at the Hindu Crematorium near Lake Nakuru and the ash put in the Benz for burial into the Indian Ocean.
Interestingly, according to a family source, the colonel before his demise was operating his daily duties from a bomb-proof office of which he had built at his bar business in the town.
Popularly known as Colonel Kamiti, his ashes were put in the car for burial at sea and it was taken to the Coast where the Mercedes Benz was thrown into the Indian Ocean.
It could be remembered as one of the special burials in the country as instead of a vase, his ashes were placed in his personal car and both sank into the sea together.
The source who insisted that this was not a belated April Fools prank revealed that
neighbours too had no ‘maombolezi’ (mourning) at his house as stated in his will.
All the burial bizarre was done quietly as nobody knew what was going on as from the time the former army officer was pronounced dead.
