Asumbi
girls High School in Homa Bay County will next term award top performers in
2014 KCSE as a way of motivating the students to maintain high academic
standards.
The
award ceremony will see the 43 students who got a mean grade of A Plain receive
lap tops valued at Sh35,000 while the 124 students who got A- (minus) will be
given cash tokens. The school enrolled 245 candidates and had a mean score of
10.759. 56 other students got a B Plus, 20 got B Plain while 2 students got a
B- (minus). Also to be appreciated are the school’s hard working teachers who
have dedicated their time to ensure the school tops the county in academics.
In 2014
exams, Asumbi has been ranked the top school in Homa Bay county and the
school’s principal Sister Anne Apiyo attributes it to support from both parents
and students as well as the PTA and the school board. In 2013, Asumbi had
enrolled 235 candidates and managed a mean grade of B+ and a mean score
69.307. The local community leaders have also saluted the principal
for admitting more students from the as compared to previous years. The
community leaders are said to be planning to honour her for her dedication to
improving the school’s academic standards.
Sister
Apiyo also attributes the good performance to the hard work and dedication by
Asumbi teachers who have tirelessly contributed to the success of their
students, as well as the non-teaching staff and parents in general.
