A Mutasa man who last year
circumcised his two sons using a nail cutter has been sentenced to a four-month
jail term for assault.
Peter Nyachega (33), of Tengwe
village under Chief Muparutsa, was convicted and sentenced yesterday when he
appeared before Mutare magistrate Sekai Chiundura charged with physical abuse
under section 3 (1) of Domestic Violence Act chapter 5.16.
The court heard that sometime in
November last year, Nyachega circumcised his two sons aged two and four years
using a nail cutter.
“I think these children will be
better off without you. You circumcised them with a nail cutter, so you are bad
father. So I am sending you to jail so that you will come back a good father,”
Chiundura said.
In his defence, Nyachega told the
court that his father had also circumcised him using a nail cutter during his
childhood, so he did not see anything wrong with that.
Shepherd Chivarika prosecuted.
