A campaign to impeach Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and install
his deputy Bernard Kiala was launched in Athi-River Town on Sunday.
Speaking
at the First Baptist Church and later at a public rally in Athi River,
Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama said he had asked members of the County
Assembly of Machakos County to take a Motion to the assembly to start
the impeachment of the governor.
“I have asked MCAs to campaign and bring a Motion to impeach Mutua and install Kiala,” said the senator.
Contacted
for comment, Governor Mutua in a short text message said: “I am too
busy working for my people of Machakos who are poor and do not have time
to engage politicians such as Senator Muthama whose main agenda is to
slow down and stop the development of my people.”
Mr Muthama accused the county government of failing to pay workers and contractors and employing people from other counties.
However,
the governor said: “These leaders and their sponsors have never cared
and do not care about the people. Let them continue with their politics
of insults and poverty.”
Deputy Governor Kiala said they had launched a campaign to save the county from nepotism, corruption and inefficiency.
He
said he had blown the whistle on an administrator who was collecting
money and depositing it in his account but instead of being sacked, the
employee was promoted.
