I am not corrupt, says Governor Kidero

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 31- Governor Evans Kidero says no amount of accusations will derail his development agenda in serving the people of Nairobi.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday at his City Hall office, Kidero said his record in fighting corruption and specifically the City Hall cartels is known.
“My record in fighting corruption and cartels at City Hall speak for itself and I will continue working for the people of Nairobi diligently,” he stated.
In the confidential report presented to parliament by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Kidero has been accused of facilitating procurement irregularity by signing an MoU with an international transport company and signing a deal worth Sh4.6 billion in a plan to launch the Nairobi metro transport system.
He, however, said it only remains an MOU with no contractual and financial obligations.
Other allegations leveled against Kidero point to the time when he was the Chief Executive Officer of Mumias Sugar Company where he allegedly approved and facilitated paying of Sh300 million to a Senior Counsel representing the company on various issues.
“During my time at Mumias at no time did we ever pay Advocate Senior Counsel Ojienda any fees leave alone that magnitude. This can be verified and confirmed by the advocate himself,” he said.
He is also accused that he allegedly fraudulently authorised a fertilizer purchase worth Sh11 million.
Reacting on the claims, he stated that, “all Mumias procurement were done according to the company regulation and as was prescribed by the Board of Directors.”

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto is also under investigation for allegedly accumulating immense wealth by purchasing earth movers worth Sh400 million and a helicopter worth Sh300 million, besides purchasing a house worth Sh33 million shillings in Ngong.
In Machakos, Governor Alfred Mutua is accused of purchasing 14 Subaru model vehicles for county Executive members through single sourcing which was overpriced.
