Residents of Kimilili in Bungoma county have asked Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinet to order for investigation on seven traffic police officers manning the Kitale-Bungoma road around Maliki area for practicing corruption and extorting money from innocent motorists.
The over 800 residents said that the officers were using a private maroon pick-up to block the road, extorting money from vehicles on claims that the motorists were overspeeding.
The locals named the ring leader of the group allegedly as Inspector Simatwa and Constable Fred Orido whom they said continue to harass them.
Already a senior police officer at Kimilili Police Station has confirmed having received the complaint from members of the public but by the time we were going to press the officers were still harassing motorists and extorting money.
