Police in Nyamira county arrested a 28-year-old man who is suspected of murdering his wife before secretly burying her in his house two weeks ago.
Faith Nyanchama Araka’s rotting body was exhumed from the grave dug inside the grass-thatched house by police from Nyamira divisional headquarters led by area OCPD Rico Ngare after obtaining a court order.
The man whom the police identified as Daniel Chumbi Nyabuti allegedly committed the on March 7 2015 at Esamba village, Enchoro sublocation, Bosamaro Masaba location in West Mugirango constituency.
According to the mother of the deceased Margaret Nyaboke Araka told reporters that she received a report that her daughter went missing from the home where she had been married on March 7 and they started making a search.
Margaret said that in the course making a search she realised that the son-in-law and his parents were uncooperative and not serious with the disappearance of her daughter from their homestead a factor which made her to be suspicious.
She then reported the matter to the area chief David Orina who also refused to summon the son and his parents to shed more light on the disappearance of her daughter forcing her to report the matter at Nyamira Police Station .
“After thorough investigation I received some intelligent information from some people that my daughter was killed by her husband and was buried in his house. I then moved to Nyamira and informed the criminal investigation officers who immediately swang into action,” she tearfully told reporters after the body was exhumed.
Confirming the incident, OCPD Ngare said that the suspect was arrested by police with the help of the members of the public when he wanted to escape.
He said that police were carrying more investigations so as to bring more people on board who they believe were involved in executing the murder.
Ngare said that the suspect would be charged murder. The body was received from the scene and taken to Nyamira County Hospital mortuary.
Immediately after the police had left the scene, angry villagers raided the home and set ablaze three houses belonging to members of killers family in addition to destruction of other properties.
