Gem
MP Jakoyo Midiwo has once again raised an accusing finger against Siaya
governor Cornel Rasanga over alleged misuse of constituency development funds
to the tune of Sh68 million.
Jakoyo
said Rasanga can not use such a huge sum of money to construct a parameter wall
surrounding his offices and some substandard offices made of wooden walls.
The
deputy leader of minority in the national assembly told the governor that he
should be accountable for the cash citing that Rasanga was not doing the
appropriate thing.
The
MP revealed that the contractor who was awarded the tender to construct the parameter
wall is not even from Siaya county as he is a tycoon from Kisumu county.
“We
won’t allow corruption to take its roots in our own county yet we are busy
fighting corruption nationally,” said Midiwo.
He
said they would be doing a disservice to the people of Siaya as they will not
benefit from the devolved government.
He
urged Rasanga not to offer tenders to nonresidents of Siaya county. Jakoyo who
was speaking during the funeral of a brother of Ugunja MP was accompanied by
Siaya senator James Orengo as Jakoyo tore into Rasanga.
He
noted that Rasanga had publicly said that Orengo should not step in Siaya
county and termed this as misuse of power and baseless threats to politicians.
“Rasanga
was a black cow which was very difficult to sell to the people of Siaya and
Orengo and I were in the forefront grooming him for the gubernatorial seat,”
said Jakoyo.
However,
during the handing- over of the borehole in Ramula Health Centre in Gem
constituency, Jakoyo claimed to the doubt of many that Orengo transacted Sh5
million to pay for delegates from his own account during the by-election of the
governor.
He
warned Rasanga of involving himself in issues that can lead to his failure in
2017 general elections.
“You
will come to us for support but it will be too late for you,” warned Jakoyo.
Rasanga counterattacked Jakoyo in one of his
rallies in Ugenya sub county and said he has no issue with Senator Orengo and
whoever is thinking so is day dreaming.
He
said that those who are criticising and monitoring his development strategies
are desperate of tenders which he is not ready to offer them.
